Srinagar, Nov 11: Police today recovered two boxes of ammunition near the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Uri sector of Baramulla district.
Police said acting on a tip-off, police conducted a search operation at village Chappra Shadra in Kamalkote near the LoC in Uri and recovered two boxes of ammunition containing 1499 AK 47 rounds from a field. However, no one was arrested, they said.
Uri has been one of the most active routes of infiltration this year and militants as per the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Lt General Om Prakash, are running out of money and arms and ammunition. The militants are trying to send in more cash and arms and ammunition to sustain militancy in Kashmir.
Army in September this year recovered one of the biggest cache of arms and ammunition from Keran sector. The huge cache of arms and ammunition was kept in six gunny bag included 10 AK-47 Rifles with 20 magazines, 98 Chinese made Pistols (.30 MAUSER) with 196 magazines and two Sub Machine Guns (.30 Cal, folding Butt) with four magazines. This was left behind by fleeing militants who were spotted by Army near the LoC.
