CHANDIGARH, July 29: Amit Sharma, Regional Director Survey and Land Records, Udhampur/Reasi advocated for public involvement in making the concept of Smart Cities a huge success in times to come.
He talked on the critical role of people in Smart Cities success while moderating a Session on “Smart & Incredible India in the Era of Make in India” during two-day Smart City Conclave 2017 which concluded in Chandigarh today.
Amit, in his address, mentioned ‘public’ as the most important stakeholder for making Smart Cities Concept, a big success.
He further quoted several examples of phenomenal success achieved in Smart Cities domain across the globe wherein people of those respective cities have played a pivotal role.
The Regional Director mentioned that after qualification and listing of two capital cities of the State, Jammu and Srinagar for developing them as Smart Cities by the Central Government, it is the best time to spread proper awareness amongst the public here about the role of citizens, Smart City concept, public participation, direct intervention towards implementation of various Smart City solutions in these twin capital cities.
Others who participated in this Panel Discussion on ‘Smart & Incredible India’ in the Era of ‘Make in India’ alongwith Amit Sharma were Baldev Purusharth, Commissioner Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, Naveen Mittal, Secretary, Department of Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Government of Telangana, Shivdular Singh Dhillon, Secretary, Department of Tourism, Government of Punjab and Lokesh Lohia, Smart City Lead, CISCO.
In his concluding remarks as Moderator of the Panel Discussion in Chandigarh Smart City Conclave, Sharma also mentioned about creating a synergy and collusion between the various schemes of Government of India such as Jan-Dhan Yojana and BFSI Institutions, Municipal Corporations, Healthcare Departments, Safety and Traffic Agencies, etc for achieving holistic success in development of Smart Cities across the board in the nation.
The Valedictory Function was chaired by VP Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Chandigarh Union Territory Administration.
