JAMMU, Sept 1: Thousands of students appeared today in Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE) Main held today in various centres across Jammu and Kashmir.
Despite protests by opposition parties and some students, the examination began today with precautions amid COVID-19. Around 16 lakh students have registered for the exams nationwide.
The first day of the exam saw BArch aspirants taking the test. All arrangements were in place in exam centres across J&K to make students and examination staff follows social distancing and all SOPs. Announcements were being made for the candidates to maintain social distancing and other measures in the wake of COVID 19 spread.
Before entering the exam halls, the temperature of students was being checked and sanitizers were being given to them to sanitize their hands. The students themselves were seen following proper social distancing even while entering the centers in queues.
In Chenab College of Education located at Kaluchak in Jammu, the candidates appearing for the JEE Main exam were standing at a distance for the temperature check and had covered their faces with a mask to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
“We were expecting the exam to be postponed as it was trending on social media apps like twitter and instagram for last several days but finally the exam happened and we are satisfied with the exam and the arrangements made by the college authorities in wake of COVID 19,” said Kamakshi, a student after coming out of the Kaluchak exam centre.
She said that all SOPs were being followed and all required precautions were being taken by the students as well as examination staff. There was nothing to worry, she added.
Another student, Manshika said that the exam was to be held in March but it was postponed due to Coronavirus and students have to face many difficulties due to delay in exams. She expressed happiness over Government decision to conduct the exam and extra arrangements done for the same in wake of COVID 19.
Manshika said that from sanitizer to thermal screening, every arrangement was in the centre while as several students were carrying their own sanitizers and everybody was wearing face masks. No negligence was seen on part of either from students or authorities of examination centre.
“Very good arrangements were there for safe conduct of exam. We were feared for no reason and now after seeing the arrangements, we have no fear. I think the Government has taken very good decision to conduct the exam but the exam should have happened on time i.e. in March as there were very few Corona cases at that time in comparison to now,” said Priti Verma, another student after coming out of Kaluchak centre.
