Ambulance driver assaulted by attendants at CHC Jourian

JAMMU, Oct 16: An ambulance driver at Community Health Centre (CHC) Jourian was assaulted and injured severely by some attendants of a patient following which a complaint was registered at police station Akhnoor and one of the accused arrested.
According to the reports, some people came with a patient of poison case at CHC Jourian last night. The patient was given required initial treatment and then referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu but over alleged delay by the ambulance driver in shifting the patient, the attendants abused the driver and assaulted him with punches. In the attack, the ambulance driver received grievous injuries on his face and eyes.
As other staff members of the Hospital including NOs, pharmacists and doctor (Medical Officer) on duty came for the help of the ambulance driver, the attendants allegedly assaulted them also. Later, the attendants shifted their patient in some private vehicle.
According to SHO Akhnoor, Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar, a case FIR number 179/2020 under relevant section has been registered in this connection at police station Akhnoor on submission of a written complaint by on-duty MO of the Hospital. He said the main culprit namely Satish son of Butta Ram, resident of Jourian, has also been arrested by them and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Doctors Association Jammu (DAJ) while condemning the assault on ambulance driver, paramedical staff and on-duty doctor, appealed the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir to take stringent possible action under law to render exemplary punishment to the culprits.
“At such a critical time when medical fraternity is working day and night to control the COVID-19 pandemic and treat infected as well as non-COVID patients, such an act of society is highly demoralizing,” said Dr Balwinder Singh, DAJ president in a statement.
