SRINAGAR, Mar 5: In a glaring instance of official apathy, the authorities on the orders of a local politician have shifted doctors and allotted ambulance from New Type Public Health Center (NTPHC) Kukroosa to Vilgam Public Health Center, in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A delegation from Kukroosa and its adjoining villages told Excelsior that the NTPHC started its 24 hours work some seven years ago and during these years it saved the lives of many critical patients, but unfortunately due to some unknown reasons, its operating timing was reduced to day service only.
“Due to the influence of a local politician, one doctor, one dentist and ambulance were shifted to other hospitals; hence putting the lives of more than 20,000 people at risk,” the delegation said.
Chief Medical Officer, (CMO) Kupwara, Dr Muneer Ahmad said, “Yes, the ambulance and a doctor has been shifted from NTPHC Kukroosa to Vilgam, but it was a higher level decision and I can’t do anything in this regard.”
The locals said that one of the female dentists draws salary from NTPHC Kukroosa but works at PHC Ramhall, Handwara.
