SRINAGAR : Pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas resumed today after remaining suspended for a day owing to slippery track conditions following overnight rain.
Despite cloudy sky, the yatra resumed from both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes, a yatra official said.
The yatra was suspended due to heavy rains leading to slippery tracks. He said about 700 pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy cave shrine.
So far, 2.09 lakh pilgrims had paid obeisance at the shrine since the commencement of the annual 48-day-long pilgrimage from July 2.
The official said that about 500 pilgrims, including 130 women and three sadhus, left Baltal base camp for the holy cave shrine.
Meanwhile, pilgrims who were stopped at Barari Marg yesterday after the track become slippery, were also allowed to proceed towards the cave shrine this morning.
The pilgrims are likely to reach the cave shrine this afternoon. The pilgrims, who had paid obeisance and were stopped at the cave shrine and other places yesterday, have also started their return journey towards Baltal base camp.
Meanwhile, over 200 yatris, including women and sadhus, also left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route. Similarly, pilgrims who had night stay at different halting stations have also started their onward journey towards the cave shrine.
Of the pilgrims who have so far paid obeisance, majority have left for their homes. (AGENCIES)
