SRINAGAR:Pilgrimage to holy the Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas was going on smoothly as fresh batches left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps early this morning.
About 2.45 lakh pilgrims had paid obeisance at the self-made Ice-Shivlingam till last evening at the cave shrine since the commencement of the 59-day-long pilgrimage from July 2. The weather is pleasant and pilgrimage was going on smoothly from both the tracks, a Yatra Control Room (YCR) official told UNI.
He said 1,400 pilgrims, including women, sadhus and children, who had arrived at Baltal yesterday, left for the cave shrine early this morning. The pilgrims will reach the cave shrine this afternoon after covering the 16-km-long track on foot, he said.
He said fresh batch of pilgrims, including women and sadhus also left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp early this morning for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route. However, the pilgrims who had night halt at Chandnawari and other halting stations on this 45-km-long track have also started their foot journey towards the cave shrine this morning.
The YCR official yesterday said 5,829 pilgrims paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine yesterday. With this a total of 2,44,855 yatris paid darshan at the Ice-Shivlingam at the cave shrine since July 2. (AGENCIES)
