Amarnath yatra face of secular values of J&K: PWS

SRINAGAR, July 18: The Peoples Welfare Society (PWS) and State Pensioners Association in a joint meeting at Kangan 40 kms from here, today appealed the people to extend all cooperation to Amarnath pilgrims and maintain high traditions of pluralistic culture for which Kashmir was known for ages together.
The meeting which was chaired by president of PWS, Mir Ghulam Rasool said that Aamanath yatra is a symbol of secular character of the J&K State and we have to maintain it at all costs. This is the first kind of such yatra in entire world where Muslims used to make arrangements and facilitate the smooth pilgrimage from ages together and as per the legend even a Muslim shepherd had also discovered the cave.
He said that the recent attack on Amarnath yatris had hurt the sentiments of Kashmiris also as no peace loving people will support this. It has also brought a bad name to Kashmir, he added.
The meeting discussed the problems of pensioners also and demanded enhancement of Medical Allowance to Rs 3000 per month, release of DA installment from July  2017 and regularization of daily wagers immediately.
It appealed the Government to take effective steps in restoring peace in the Valley by gaining confidence of common masses and also solving the problems confronted to them.
The meeting among others was addressed by Ghulam Mohammed, Noor Mohammed Sheikh and Ghulam Ahmed Shilvati.
