SRINAGAR, June 30: The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Amar Singh Club, Srinagar, was held on Sunday. Owing to the unforeseen engagement of Club President and Chief Minister of J&K, Omar Abdullah, the meeting was chaired by managing committee member Rauf A Punjabi.
The meeting commenced with a minute’s silence to honour members who passed away during the year, including Muhammad Shafi Pandit, Devender Singh Rana, Prof Mian Sualeh Mustafa, Mohammad Aslam Khan and Mir Mohammed Hussain Kanth.
Club Secretary, Nasir Hamid Khan presented a detailed report of the committee’s activities, highlighting the revenue growth from Rs 86 lakhs in 2019-20 to Rs 4.45 crores in 2024-25. The club paid Rs 1.29 crore in GST and more than doubled its staff. Major investments were made in asset creation and restoration of existing facilities.
Khan informed members about the Club’s initiative, ‘Common Interest Conversations’, addressing key societal issues such as digital addiction, drug abuse, women wellness, elder care, unemployment, and architecture.
The audited accounts for 2023-24 were unanimously approved by the General Body. Amendments to the Club Constitution regarding Article 8(i) (membership strength), Article 40(v) (approval of minutes), and revision of admission fees were discussed and passed. A new membership category for single women on nominal charges, as recommended by Khan, also received approval.
A proposal by Bilal Ahmed Dar to create a special corpus fund for marriage support of underprivileged girls, by charging 50% banqueting fee for both sons’ and daughters’ weddings and earmarking 10% of banquet income, was unanimously adopted.
Senior Advocate Jehangir Iqbal Ganie’s resolution to delete Article 20(4), which barred managing committee members from contesting elections after two consecutive terms, was also unanimously approved, citing democratic principles.
