Altaf discusses conservation of Hangul

JAMMU, Feb 12: Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology Mian Altaf Ahmad today chaired a meeting of the Standing Committee of State Board for Wildlife regarding the rationalization of boundaries of Sudhmahadev Wild Life Conservation Reserve in Udhampur district.
Threadbare discussions were held on the significance, present status of reserve, protection and conservation of Hangul.
It was decided in the meeting that in view of public interest and representation from the inhabitants of Latti area, the compartments namely 1 to 6 Dudu area (approximate area 1224 hectares) would be excluded from the reserve and the compartments 34, 35B, 38, 39, 40A, 40B, 42, 43, 45B, 46 Dudu (approximate area 3211 hectares) range of Udhampur would be included in the Sudhmahadev Conservation Reserve and the recommendations would be sent to the Union Ministry for Environment and Forest for the necessary action.
The Minister gave directions to the concerned Department for forwarding the proposal to the Union Ministry for Environment and Forest for approval. Underlining the importance of wild life and Hangul species in State, he said that need of the hour is to protect the Hangul species and asked the concerned department to complete the work on breeding farm project of Hangul and Makhor.
Among other Secretary Forests, Mohammad Afzal, Chief Wild Life Warden, A. K. Singh, IGP, CIV, PHQ, Satish Khandare, Director FPF, Ravi Kumar Kesar and other senior officers of Forests and its allied wings attended the meeting.
