Altaf, Bali, Priya inaugurate sprawling campus equipped with state-or art facilities

JAMMU: The new building of Government Degree College Paloura, completed in record time of eighteen months, today presented a festive look as the jubilant students, staff and locals of the area gathered to be part of the momentous inaugural function of the sprawling campus, here at Domana on the outskirts of Jammu city.

Minister for Finance, Education, Labour and Employment, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat and Minister of state for Education, Tourism and Culture, Priya Sethi dedicated the campus to the students.

Completed at a Cost of over Rs 12 crore, the massive four walled campus has been built over an area of 60 Kanal piece of land.

The main building comprises fully equipped science and computer labs, modern library, over half a dozen spacious classrooms, a common room and office block, even as the Minister for Finance and Education on the spot sanctioned a separate Canteen block for the students. A girl hostel is also being constructed in the campus for providing accommodation to the girl students of rural areas to enable them to continue their study after completing the school education.

After the inauguration, the Ministers along with Principal Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asgar Samoon, Director Colleges M AChaat, Nodal Principal Jammu Dr Satinder Singh, MD JKPCC and the College head went around the building and inspected the facilities.

In his inaugural address, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari congratulated the students, staff and locals on the completion of the massive campus in a record time.

The foundation stone of the campus was laid by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in September 2016 and it has been completed in the fixed timeline as set by her, the Minister informed.

He reiterated the commitment of the government to create best infrastructure and provide most efficient faculty to facilitate students to achieve their goals.   “The educational institutions like this act as a platform where youth can pursue their dreams,” he said and hoped that the college faculty will leave no stone unturned to give their best to the pupils. “We have best teaching faculty in our higher education institutions which they have proved by achieving distinctions at many times. Our goal is to provide best and adequate number of teachers to the students and for that 1500 Assistant professors were recruited only last year”, the Minister said.

He asked the colleges to adhere to the academic Calendar and ensure that students are able to meet the new semester system of exams.

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat hailed the Education Minister for taking personal interest in ensuring timeline completion of the campus.

He said this yet another developmental feat bears the testimony about the commitment of the present government towards fulfilling the aspiration of the people.

He also listed various projects taken up in his home constituency Raipur Domana, including 100 bedded hospital, a large network of roads and the newly completed College building.

Priya Sethi called upon the college faculty to extend proactive handholding to the students to meet the challenges of new system of examination. She said that initially the students faced problems but now they are fast getting accustomed to the new system. She further congratulated the students of GDC Paloura for having the new campus.
