SRINAGAR, Nov 20: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Traffic J&K Alok Kumar convened a meeting of the officers of Traffic Police City Srinagar and Traffic Police Rural Kashmir and reviewed traffic scenario, here today.
The meeting was attended by SSP Traffic City Srinagar, Al-Tahir Gillani, SP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ahmad Shah, Additional SP Traffic City Srinagar, Sonam Dechan, DySPs, DTIs of Traffic City Srinagar and Traffic Police Rural Kashmir.
IGP stressed upon the officers to take all necessary measures to smoothen the flow of traffic in City Srinagar and all areas of Kashmir valley by strictly enforcing the MV Act and Rules with zero tolerance against visible offences.
Alok Kumar in his deliberation with the officers sought assurance from the officers for visible change on ground with a people friendly attitude and ensured that technology orientated gadgetry and other implements would be provided to the traffic officer for traffic regulations and enforcement in the near future.
He directed the officers that the entry of heavy vehicles (tippers) into City Srinagar should be allowed as per the prescribed time. The officers were directed to liaise with the management of coaching centers to stagger the timing of coaching centers during peak hours, so that the traffic movements on these routes may not got hampered.
He stressed upon the officers to liaise with SMC Srinagar to conduct regular drives at HSHS and Maharaja Bazaar to remove the illegal occupation on the roadside so that the traffic movements on this road stretch can be normalized. Besides this, the officers were directed that they will ensure that all lower subordinates, officials will wear florescent jackets during night hours for visibility and safety. The officers were directed to ensure that no PSV will be allowed to ply on MA Road and shall follow the diversion plan strictly and violators be dealt strict as per MV Act.
IGP visited the under construction Jahangir Chowk-Ram Bagh fly over and directed CEO ERA to open one tube of the said flyover from Jahangir Chowk to Naaz Crossing during peak hours, who assured that one tube of flyover will be throw open from tomorrow during peak hours. He directed that frequent awareness programmes be conducted in schools and colleges to develop a sense of responsibility among budding youths of the society.
IGP Alok Kumar visited the Dargah Hazratbal Shrines to review the arrangements for Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi and gave on spot directions to the officers regarding smooth movements of traffic.
