Sir,
Refer news item ‘Govt doubles allocation to Health, Education sectors’ DE March 20. The two fold increase in funds for health and education sectors is a step in right direction. The need for allocation of such funds is dire need of the hour, as fund shortage has hit both these vital sectors. Take for instance the case of degree colleges in the State. During the last regime a number of Degree Colleges were opened in many parts of the State, particularly in far flung areas. These colleges do not function properly due to various reasons which include shortage of staff and infrastructure. Some of these colleges are even now run in Higher Secondary Schools or in some private buildings. So, the first priority should be to construct buildings having all modern facilities. These colleges should be then provided the required staff besides having provisions for all streams viz commerce, science and arts. It has been observed that in absence of choice subjects, students are forced to opt for subjects which are available there. This way the functioning of a college loses its purpose. Likewise, Medical sector too needs to be given sufficient funds so as to enable people avail quality health care. The Government has admitted that these vital sectors have been suffering very badly and it is time to take corrective steps.
Yours etc…..
