Alarming cybercrime

We have the IT Act in the country which registers cybercrimes for prosecution under law.  The cybercrime in our country has shown over 300 per cent increase for the period 2011-2014. It is not only our country that has recorded increase in cybercrime, but countries like US, Turkey, China, Brazil, Pakistan, Algeria, Turkey, Europe, and the UAE also have suffered cyberattacks. However, our country has recorded more than 300 per cent crime in just three years.
The alarming question is that cyber attacks could become disastrous for some countries. Recently we have seen the news of vital leak outs of our submarine installations, in which cyber attack could have been a component of the strategy of stealing the secrets. International community is becoming much worried on this count. In the past there have been reports of China stealing vital information. True or false, it is difficult for us to ascertain it. Nevertheless, the problem exits. It is very difficult to predict what type of preventive measures would be taken so that cyber attacks are not allowed. Till that time it is of much importance that both Centre and State Governments should immediately take steps to ensure that official secrets and plans and lodged in safe and secure hands.  Some systems are highly vulnerable to cyber attacks and need very special protection. These are like nuclear plants, railways, transportation or hospitals that can subsequently lead to dire consequences such as power failures, water pollution or floods, disruption of transportation systems and loss of life, noted the study. As we see, cyber attacks could become the much more danger to human beings with the passage of time.
We think that intellectuals in the country and the technocrats should come together to ponder over the matter and find out a solution of how life can be made more secure, safe and pleasant on the planet earth.
