JAMMU, Mar 2: Police recovered one AK-56 rifle and three pouches from village Darap under the jurisdiction of Satwari police station this morning.
A major tragedy has been averted with timely recovery of the deadly weapon, SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq said.
He said an information was received by SSP Jammu Sunil Gupta about the weapon lying at village Darap. Immediately, the SDPO South along with police teams rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and recovered AK-56 rifle along with three pouches.
Police parties led by Rafiq were conducting searches in the village. However, no arrests have been made so far.
Police said they were trying to ascertain identity of the persons, who brought the assault rifle to Darap. The searches were on to identify the accused. A case has been registered at Satwari police station for further investigations.
