JAMMU, May 27: Secretary All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union (AJKKU), Advocate Lal Chand Sharma has urged upon the Chief Minister of Punjab, Capt Arminder Singh to review the shutting down of the water supply to irrigation Canals of J&K Union territory, which are lifelines in the twin districts of Kathua and Samba.
In a statement issued here, Advocate Sharma said that Punjab Water Resources Department without taking J&K counterpart into confidence has completely stopped the irrigation water supply to thousands of farmers, who were busy in sowing crops which desperately need water for irrigation from the very first day.
He further said that if the restoration of irrigation water supply was not considered at an earliest, it would cause huge economic loss to the farmers concerned followed by a fall in local GDP during COVID-19.
AJKKU Secretary also pleaded for cash assistance to the farmers equivalent to the minimum monthly wage during the lock down to ensure sucker to them.
