AJKKU protests against PDD

RAJOURI, July 8:  To protest against steep hike in power tariff and failure of PDD to supply electricity to the people, All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union organized a day-long dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, here today.
They raised slogans against the PDD authorities and later submitted a memorandum of demands to the Deputy Commissioner.
Addressing the protesters, AJKKU chairman Ashok Sharma criticized the PDD for unilaterally increasing minimum agreement load beyond the consumption of people living in remote and far-flung areas of Rajouri district. He demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision with regard to upward revision of electricity charges and pleaded for electrification of uncovered areas in a time bound.
Later, a memorandum of demands was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner highlighting power related issues besides seeking re-commissioning of Kalakote Thermal Power House, opening of coal mines in Kalakote area, developing of Air Ports at Rajouri and Poonch, construction of Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch rail line, double laning and handing over Siot-Kalakote, Moghla-Kotrenka via Khawas to BRO, etc.
Among those who addressed the dharna, included, M S Jamwal, Kashmir Singh Sarpanch, Amar Nath, Bagga Khan, Mirza Sajjad, Arun Kumar, Misri Khan, Shabir Ahmed and others.
