JAMMU, Apr 19: A meeting of All J&K Goods Carrier Association (AJKGCA) was held here today under the chairmanship of Charanjit Singh, wherein the members highlighted various problems being faced by the transport industry and transporters.
Addressing the meeting, Charanjit Singh expressed grave concern over bad condition of roads, drains and lanes as well as by-lanes at Transport Nagar. He alleged that despite bringing the issue to the notice of concerned authorities many a times through TV channels and news papers, no heed was paid by them.
Encroachment of lanes and by-lanes at Transport Nagar by the locals at the behest of JDA officials is also creating nuisance in the area thereby creating jams in the entire area, he added.
The speakers also expressed concern over more than 60% hike in entry fees at Mandi by HPMC, which they alleged is intolerable. They warned of strong protest demonstration if the hiked entry fees are not rolled back.
Moreover, the industries have brought their own transporters from outside the State to carry their business to Srinagar and outside the State, which is directly affecting the livelihood of local transporters, they said.
They also demanded the Government to repair NH-1, which they alleged is in pathetic condition right from Ramban to Banihal thereby causing frequent traffic jams due to which they have to face huge loss in their business.
