JAMMU, Oct 17: A delegation of All Jammu Civil Society Forum (AJCSF) met the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Union capital today and submitted a memorandum projecting demands.
Led by Gulchain Singh Charak, former minister and convenor of the Forum, the delegation members apprised the Union Minister about the current situation in the State and impact on the economy of Jammu in view of Kashmir unrest. He also spoke on the role of AJCSF in creating awareness among the masses and working for restoration of peace. They pointed out that disturbed conditions of the Kashmir valley are grave and yet far from normalcy. There is no let up in the agitations and Pakistan sponsored terror attacks.
They alleged that there was full collapse of governing machinery in J&K. Although the ‘epicentre’ of the problem is in the Kashmir valley, yet its tremors and devastation jolts are felt throughout the State and has the potential of national dimensions. At a rough estimate the losses suffered by the trade, industry, transportation, tourism and hotels have come to a whopping estimated amount of Rs 4,000 cr up to now, they added.
The main demands projected during meeting included permanent peaceful solution of the present J&K problem by taking all stake holders on board and granting Regional Autonomous Councils to all three regions within the constitution frame work; keep vigil on sensitive areas of Jammu region; full functioning of the State Govt be restored; secretariats at Jammu and Srinagar should remain operative throughout the year; raise infrastructure for border migrants; special recruitment drive for border youth from Jammu; help business community from Jammu region by providing concession in view of Kashmir situation; launch of full fledged Duggar Channel and enhance funds to DD Jammu at par with Kashmir.
Retired Maj Gen GS Jamwal, Neeraj Anand president CTF and leading businessman, Abdul Majid and others accompanied the delegation.
