Ajatshatru demands special package for tourism industry

JAMMU, Aug 17: Former Cabinet Minister and Member Legislative Council (MLC), Ajatshatru Singh, has demanded special package for tourism industry of J&K on the lines of Industrial package.
In a press release issued here today, the BJP legislator said that new GST regime, despite being a landmark positive step towards economic integration of the country, has put the State’s tourism industry under tremendous pressure. He further said that the State is fast leaping back to normalcy and a special package for tourism industry, which is the economic backbone of the State, will further consolidate the positive atmosphere in the State.
He said that the tourism industry has a great potential for involving younger generation in constructive activities through large scale job creation. “This will also help bringing more and more tourists to the state and overcoming negative propaganda against the situation in the State”, he added.
The former Cabinet Minister said that the Central Government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi must provide for the provision of GST refund to the hotel industry, travel industry and all other components of the tourism sector. He also stressed for a united effort of all the stakeholders in the tourism sector and offered his services to take up the issue to convince the central leaders for such a special package for tourism sector.
Welcoming the extension of Industrial Package in J&K till 2027, he said that it is a landmark decision of the high powered Cabinet Committee chaired by Prime Minister himself to support all these states in fast industrialization and job creation. He opined that while industrial package will benefit only industrial pockets in the State, a similar package for tourism industry will benefit every nook and corner of the State thus benefitting a large population.
