JAMMU, Aug 29: All India Registered Nurses Federation (AIRNF), J&K Committee, has strongly demanded the immediate recruitment of permanent nursing staff in the newly established Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) at Udhampur and Handwara.
Highlighting the issue, president of AIRNF J&K, Vishav Sharma, said that nurses are the backbone of every hospital, and without their dedicated service, no healthcare institution can function effectively. He expressed concern that despite the establishment of GMC Udhampur and GMC Handwara in 2023, the recruitment process for nursing staff has not yet been initiated by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).
“Thousands of nursing graduates, postgraduates and diploma holders in J&K are waiting for years for permanent job opportunities. If the Health and Medical Education Department has already referred the posts of nursing staff for these two medical colleges to JKSSB, then there is no justification for such prolonged delay in advertising the vacancies,” Sharma said.
He further appealed to the Union Health Minister and the J&K Administration to intervene in the matter on priority, ensuring that the recruitment process begins without further delay. “The Government must address this issue urgently. Delaying recruitment not only affects the future of qualified nursing aspirants but also hampers the proper functioning and development of these new medical colleges,” he added.
The AIRNF J&K Committee reiterated that permanent recruitment is essential for strengthening healthcare services in the region and meeting the standards required in medical education and patient care.
