SRINAGAR, Nov 24: The flight operation at Srinagar airport remained partially disrupted for 8th consecutive day today with five flights operating this morning while all 12 afternoon flights were cancelled due to fog.
An Airport official said that five flights operated from Srinagar airport today while 12 afternoon flights were cancelled. The 5 flights that operated from Srinagar airport included two Air India flights, one GOAir, one SpcieJet and one Vistara.
This is for the eight consecutive day that the air traffic was disrupted at Srinagar airport. Last Thursday around a dozen afternoon flights were cancelled due to poor visibility, on Friday no flight landed at Srinagar airport, on Saturday only two flights managed to operate and on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday all the flights were cancelled and yesterday 5 flights operated from Srinagar Airport.
In the meantime, a Meteorological Department official forecast snow in the hills and light rain in the plains of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. He said that this may give relief to the people from fog and may improve visibility that is continuously disrupting air traffic at Srinagar Airport.
The official said that Srinagar will generally remain cloudy tomorrow with poor visibility and Maximum and Minimum temperatures will be around 12 °C and 2 °C respectively.
The official said that Jammu will be partly cloudy to generally cloudy tomorrow with Maximum and Minimum temperatures around 23 °C and 12 °C respectively.
The official said that Leh has the possibility of light snow tomorrow with Maximum and Minimum temperatures around 9°C and minus 2°C respectively.
The official said that the night temperatures throughout the Kashmir valley rose above freezing point today due to a cloud cover.
The lowest night temperature was 1.8 degree Celsius in Srinagar, 1.0 in Gulmarg and 1.8 in Pahalgam today. In Leh the lowest night temperature recorded was 0.3 degrees while it was minus 1.5 in Kargil.
The night’s lowest temperature was 9.7 degrees in Jammu city while it was 12.4 in Katra, 8.5 in Batote, 3.6 in Bannihal and 5.1 in Bhaderwah.
A Meteorological Department official said that Srinagar recorded maximum day temperature of 14.5 degree Celsius while normal day temperature for this time off the year is 14 degree Celsius, Qazigund recorded 15.1 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 12.9 degree Celsius, Kupwara 14.9 degree Celsius, Kokernag 14.7 degree Celsius, Gulmarg 9.4 degree Celsius, Leh 10.5 degree Celsius and Kargil 7. 5 degree Celsius.
The day temperatures in Jammu city was recorded at 24.7 degrees Celsius, while it was 21.2degree Celsius in Katra town, 17.9 degree Celsius in Batote, 18.6 degree Celsius in Banihal and 18.8 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah town.
