JAMMU, June 4: All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) in an extraordinary webinar- of its Core Committee held under the chairmanship of Col. (retd) Tej K.Tikoo, expressed its dismay on announcing of Delimitation Commission for UT Jammu & Kashmir based on 2011 census. The meeting was attended by general secretary, MK Pajan, Rajinder Premi, AK Raina, Vijay Kashkari, Sanjay Sapru, Dilip Koul, Sunil Koul, Sudhir Shah, Dr. Manorma Bakshi and Kamal Warikoo. Most members joined from NCR, Bangalore, Goa and Jammu.
The members unanimously resolved to dismiss the delimitation process based on 2011 Census due to its inaccuracies.
The meeting resolved to inform the community that in our communication to the appropriate authorities at the Union and JKUT level, AIKS vide its communication dated 3rd June 2020 rejected the Government’s proposed conduct of delimitation exercise in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir based on the Census of 2011.The concerned authorities have been made aware of the deep flaws which characterise the census data of 2011. The data included in the census, as far as Kashmiri Pandits are concerned, is completely incorrect. Even the sex ratio mentioned in the data pertaining to KPs is far from the truth.
The AIKS said as is well known, ever since the census of 1941, Kashmiri Pandits have been the victims of statistical assault carried out on them by the enumerators who projected a huge number of Kashmiri Pandit households as those of Muslims. Their objective, in keeping with the emergence of Muslim majoritarianism in the Valley around that time, was to deny them our fair share of political representation and benefits of social-welfare schemes. This process continued right till the time of our forced displacement in 1989-90.
AIKS considers our political dis-empowerment as one of the contributory factors of our latest exodus in 1989-90. Rather than correcting the situation, it appears that the Government is out to perpetuate our political dis-empowerment at a crucial stage, when post-Aug 5, 2019, events should be leading to our dignified return to Kashmir and our political empowerment.
AIKS has suggested that the delimitation in JKUT must be carried out after the census, due in 2021, is completed.
