NEW DELHI, Dec 13: AIKS held a meeting a with Hindu Council UK and the delegates from Hindu organization of U.K at YMCA, New Delhi recently. The meeting was presided over by Gautam Kaul, acting president AIKS. The prominent people from UK included Dr. Krishna Bhan, President IEKF; Sanjay Jagatia, general secretary Hindu Council UK; Satish Sharma, Chairman National Hindu Temples UK and other members of the delegation. The meeting was also attended in large numbers by the Kashmiri Pandits residing in Delhi NCR. Dr. Romesh Raina invited A. N. Kaul Sahib (Editor-in-Chief, Naad), B. L. Razdan (President Hindu Education Society Kashmir) and Col. (Retd) Valmiki Katju (President Kashmiri Pandit Association, Delhi).
The meeting began with the welcome address by Dr. Romesh Raina, who while welcoming the delegates, introduced them to AIKS, its aims and objectives and its role in espousing the cause of Kashmiri Pandit displacement before the powers that be. He presented them an agenda, a road map prepared by AIKS in the three AIKS – held conclaves to prepare a foolproof document which was presented by it before the Govt. of India and all its political institutions for the past few years.
Gautam Kaul said, Kashmiri Pandits no longer trust their Muslim neighbours and vice versa. He further stated that the recent floods in the Valley had been a huge disaster and it is bound to change the dynamics further, AIKS has been involved in the relief work and has reached out to even the remote villages. He emphatically stated that the displaced KP community needs the serious attention of our overseas brethren.
The keynote speakers from UK included Dr. Krishna Bhan, Sanjay Jagatia and Satish Sharma.
Dr. Krishna Bhan stated that IEKF greatly appreciates the work of AIKS for the Kashmiri Pandit community. The HCUK and IEKF have been working closely for the internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus since 2005. HCUK has had a huge contribution in getting Baroness -Nicholson’s report on Kashmir accepted by the European Parliament in 2007. Both organizations have worked together in raising the awareness of the plight of Kashmiri Pandits among the British Parliamentarians. Moti Kaul, the outgoing President of AIKS had attended two conferences in the House of Commons and one meeting with the various Hindu organizations.
Sanjay Jagatia said that it was very important that we learn to lobby effectively and use the same techniques as the Muslims do.
Satish Sharma explained how important it was to engage the youth to achieve success.
