As the demand for opening of AIIMS in Jammu is genuine and people are fighting for this genuine demand through peaceful protests, bandh and candle light protest march. But the drama for its opening is on its full swing with different persons giving different statements and that too not clear. Question is not whether to open it in Kashmir or in Jammu. Question is how important is AIIMS for Jammu in addition to Kashmir? And indeed it is of much importance as the medical facilities are not upto mark in Jammu and moreover the only Govt. medical College is not able to meet the requirement of Jammu province.
The authorities who earlier announced AIIMS, IIT and IIM for Jammu and Kashmir actually wanted to satisfy the Jammu people by announcing IIT and IIM for the particular region. But with a very clear message to these authorities; don’t compare AIIMS with IIT and IIM. As IIT and IIM cater the demand of only a section of society mostly students of H.S. Part – II and Graduates only. Moreover every year not more than 30000 students pass out in H.S. Part – II exams and only few of them get selected in IIT. On the other side the number is much less in case of graduate students. I think the parents must be willing to send these brilliant wards to anywhere in the country for getting enrolled in these important courses. On the other hand medical facilities are necessary for whole population of Jammu region which is 5,350,811 as per 2011 census. Now-a-days the diseases are increasing day by day and every person is suffering from one problem or the other and for thorough check up we have to visit our neighbouring states like punjab or hospital of repute in Delhi. The problem can be overcome only by establishing AIIMS in Jammu. Moreover every person is not able to approach big hospitals for health check up and treatments because of lack of money.
So the authorities who want to satisfy Jammu people by announcing IIT and IIM for AIIMS is not justifiable. IIT and IIM are having their own importance while as AIIMS is having its own. AIIMs is for a mass and every person right from years of age to old age is in need of such a facility. With the request to authorities to please consider the matter seriously and do justice for people of Jammu by opening AIIMS in Jammu also in addition to Kashmir and save the lives as well as hard earned money of people of Jammu.
