JAMMU, Aug 22: Department of Cardiology, GMC Jammu added another important achievement in interventional procedures by successfully implanting AICD (Automated Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator) device in a needy patient yesterday. As per an official handout the patient Surinder Singh, 45, was suffering from Arrythmogenic Right Ventricular dysplasia which keeps on showering a serious event of ventricular tachycardia to the patient and requires electric shocks for reverting this condition. By implanting the device, the patient will get automatic defibrillation as and when required as it is sensed by the device. The device was successfully implanted by a team of Cardiology Department led by Dr Sunil Kumar Sharma, assisted by Dr Sanjeev Bhat and supported by resident doctors, Cath Lab staff and staff members of coronary care unit. Dr Sunil Sharma said that these type of expensive devices which are life saving in nature help the patient immensely and with the Department doing many of these procedures successfully, at GMC, Jammu the patients don’t have to go out of the State for getting these facilities.
