Cong to intensify Statehood movement

JAMMU, June 8: While cautioning the senior J&K Congress leaders to sink their differences and work jointly to strengthen the party in view of the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in the Jammu and Kashmir, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary (Org), K C Venugopal today said that no one was above the party and indiscipline shall not be tolerated.

While chairing a crucial meeting of the five senior leaders from the J&K Congress, including JKPCC president, Tariq Hameed Karra, CLP leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir, former DyCM and JKPCC working president Tara Chand, JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla and former JKPCC chief and Congress Working Committee (CWC) Member Vikar Rasool Wani, in presence of AICC general secretary and In-charge J&K Affairs of the Party, Sayed Naseer Hussain at Congress headquarters in Delhi today, Venugopal sent a caution note to the one and all in the J&K cadre to sink their differences and come on one platform.
Party sources said that the party high Command in Delhi had summoned these five top leaders from J&K to get their feedback about the functioning of the party and resolve the issue of their differences in view of the upcoming Panchayat and Local Bodies elections in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, this meeting was scheduled to be held on June 3 but later it was fixed on June 8. K C Venugopal and Naseer Hussain were given this responsibility by the top leadership.
Sources further said that during meeting, Venugopal even snubbed a few leaders from J&K and clearly told that indiscipline in the party will not be tolerated. He also made it clear that no body is above party, and those engineering division in the cadre, will not be allowed to succeed in their designs. He advised them to work jointly for strengthening party and take along all the party functionaries.
The meeting also discussed the efforts of the party with regard to restoration of Statehood. It was directed by both the AICC general secretaries to further intensify the party movement for attaining Statehood. They said that all the like- minded parties should come on the same page for the common cause of Statehood for J&K.
The issue related to the non-cooperation by the alliance partner (National Conference) also came under discussion during the meeting. The AICC leaders said that Central party leadership was closely monitoring these developments.
Another issue related to dual control of governance in J&K and dominance by the unelected people (LG Administration) was thoroughly discussed during the meeting. It was noted with serious concern that elected popular Government was not getting fair chance to deliver to the public.
Some JKPCC leaders projected that Congress was suffered damage, as the National Conference has failed to come up to the expectations of the people and fulfill commitments made with the people before elections.
Later, briefing media-persons after meeting, AICC general secretary In-charge J&K, Sayed Naseer Hussain said that meeting with the senior J&K leaders was held to take feedback about the ongoing Statehood movement and functioning of the party, especially in view of the upcoming Panchayat and ULB polls.
He said elected Government in J&K is not being allowed to properly function. Every file is made to move through Lt Governor’s office. There is dual control and the general public is suffering.
Hussain said it was decided in the meeting to intensify the Statehood movement in J&K and Central leadership will provide full cooperation. He further said that feedback was taken from the J&K leaders regarding upcoming local bodies polls and reviewed the preparation for the same.
AICC secretaries In-charge J&K, Pargat Singh and Divya Maderna were also present during the meeting.
