JAMMU, May 15: All India Backward Classes Federation (AIBCF), Jammu and Kashmir Unit, held its one-day convention, here today, in which the Federation’s National President Justice V Eswaraiha (former Chairman National Commission for Other Backward Classes) was the chief guest and Justice Virendra Singh Yadav, Judge Allahabad High Court, was the guest of honour.
The main agenda of the convention were 27 percent reservation to OBCs of J&K at par with other UTs of the country, OBC Census and OBC reservation in Political, Municipal & Panchayati Raj etc.
All delegates were of the view that J&K OBCs should be provided same reservation as their counterparts are getting in rest of the country. They were of the opinion that J&K OBCs were deprived of their right of 27 percent reservation since 1993 on the pretext of Article 370. Now, when Art 370 is scrapped and State has become a UT, there is no reason to keep Reservation Act 2004 which was enacted under the Constitution of erstwhile State of J&K, they explained.
F C Satia (President), informed that AIBCF was actively pursuing the OBC reservation issue in J&K since the formation of UT. “We have filed petition before National Commission for Backward Classes at New Delhi. We have also submitted the memorandum to J&K SEBCC. Besides, we have written to Deptt of Social Welfare and Empowerment; Ministry of Home affairs, and PMO Office,” he added
Chief guest, while speaking on the occasion, said that Reservation on the basis of language or locality is nothing but misuse of concept of Reservation which has left serious implications on actual and deserving OBC people.

Prominent among those were Hans Raj Jangid (working President of AIBCF) from New Delhi; Shrikant Pal from UP ; Dr Bardani from New Delhi; Jaspal Singh Khiva from Hoshiarpur; Bahadur Singh Lodi , Raj Kumar Rajput, Prakash Malvya from MP, Avdesh Kumar from Social Revolution Alliance (SRA) New Delhi.
