Agriculture policy

Sir,
This refers to your editorial ‘comprehensive agricultural policy’  (DE 7.6.2018).  I am shocked to know that our state has no comprehensive agricultural policy. Due to absence of this policy our state is moving backwards vis a vis agriculture and horticulture sector. Irony is that authorities continue to convert agricultural land into commercial hubs and highways and in return farmers are paid very meager compensation. Land Acquisition for Jammu and Srinagar Ring Roads is one such classic example wherein farmers are denied legitimate compensation. It is given to understand that more than 12000 kanals of agriculture land has been acquired in Jammu and Kashmir for Ring Road projects. In Budgam and Srinagar districts alone around 6000 kanals of fertile agriculture land will be converted into a highway. Same is the case with Kathua and Jammu districts where large amount of land has been acquired .  Now farmers have moved to High Court and infact some saying that  interim directions in favour of farmers have been issued by Jammu and Srinagar bench of the HC. Is Government having any policy to allocate alternative agriculture land to the effected farmers ? The average land holding in J&K is very less as compared to other parts of country , but we continue to lose our agriculture land for so called development and this is a mater of serious concern  which needs to be discussed and debated at various forums.
