Agricultural Census begins in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, Oct 3: The 10th Agricultural Census got underway here today with the holding of a training programme for the revenue staff of the district.
The Census is being held under aegis of Financial Commissioner Revenue.
At the outset, Joint Director (Planning) from the office of Financial Commissioner Revenue, ZA Banday gave a general introduction of the 10th Agriculture Census and its importance in framing of policies, fixing priorities and strategy for achieving fixed targets of Agriculture sector at the national level.
Eight Tehsildars, 21 NTs and a large number of Patwaris besides OQs participated in the training programme.
Banday, who was also designated as the Technical Officer of the programme, briefed the participating revenue staff about the importance of the scheme. This was followed by a detailed presentation on the technicalities of the scheme by the technical team assisting the JD.
During the meeting, the JD said that the Agricultural census is a quinquennial Census which was first launched by the Government of India in the year 1970-71. This Census is conducted in three phases starting with complete enumeration study and followed by two phases based on survey study, he added.
The training imparted to the revenue staff included collection of data regarding number of agricultural operational holders in the district, land utilization, tenancy status and irrigation facilities available etc.
