Agri Deptt sponsors farmers’ tour to Punjab

Director Agriculture Jammu Ajay Khajuria flagging off farmers tour on Thursday.

JAMMU Sept 20: To enable local farmers to have a firsthand experience of the modern farming techniques, a group of 35 farmers representing different districts of Jammu division, along with officers of the Department of Agriculture, was today flagged off by Director Agriculture Jammu Ajay Khajuria, to participate in two day Kissan Mela organized by Punjab Agriculture University at its Ludhiana Campus.
The farmers tour has been sponsored under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA).
Interacting with the farmers on the occasion, Director Agriculture said that the participatory tour which was being organized under ATMA has a specific objective of acquainting the farmers with advanced and modern agriculture of Punjab and the latest techniques, methods and machinery utilized by them for increasing production of different agricultural crops.
He added that there was a great need to modernize the agriculture to make it more profitable for sustainability. He advised the farmers to get themselves equipped with latest techniques & methods for increasing the production and productivity as well as the latest agriculture machinery being displayed at the Kissan Mela.
He further impressed upon the farmers to interact with the scientists, experts and farmers of other states participating in the Mela and finally equip themselves with sufficient information and knowledge to be adopted at their fields and share the same with other farmers of their area. He also instructed them to participate whole heartedly in such programmes and get benefitted by such exposure visits.
Joint Director Agriculture Extension Dr S S Jamwal also interacted with the farmers and called upon them to acquire the latest knowledge about agriculture and allied activities after attending the Mela. Jt. Director Inputs Sushil Sahni, Deputy Director Central Dr Ramakant, Incharge CSS C M Sharma and other officers were also present at the occasion.
