Aggrieved teachers claim Minister assured relief on controversial order

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Mar 18:  Aggrieved teachers, who were left out from the list of those promoted to Masters’ grade, today claimed that they have been assured relief by the Minister for Education Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari.
According to a press release, issued here today, a deputation of the Aggrieved Teachers Association, led by its president Mrignayani Slathia, today called on  Bukhari, who assured that the Education Department’s order number 66, because of which 572 teachers have deprived promotion, would be put on hold.
Pertinent to mention here that order number 66 of the Education Department,  issued in February last,  quoted that teachers who have completed their eligibility degrees from distance education mode, are  required to appear for a written test to seek promotions in their job.
Maintaining that the said order was discriminatory in nature, the Association explained that it was a punch on those teachers who have studied in various reputed universities, inside and outside the State. Further, the Association added that  the order number 66 was null and void in itself as it was based on clause-XI of order number 252 dated 30-5-2012 which in itself has bee kept in abeyance by the Government and had not been implemented since then.
The Association further stated that the Govt order no. 66-Edu of 2017 dt.16.02.2017 is not applicable to the teachers who possessed their B Ed. degrees before they were appointed as teachers. It is pertinent to mention here that a large number of the teachers who have already been promoted as Masters have completed B Ed through distance mode before being appointed as teacher in the School Education Department. Such teachers were awarded marks for B Ed Degree obtained through distance mode during the selection process by recruitment agency. Thus the B Ed degree obtained by applicants is not an “additional qualification” in terms of Govt order No. 252 – HE of 2012 dt. 30.05.2012. As such Govt Order no. 66 -Edu 2017 dt 16.02.2017 is not applicable to applicants who have obtained B Ed degree through distance mode prior to their appointment as teachers.
