JAMMU, Jan 24: Alleging harassment by their Head of the Department, four research scholars of former Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal, along with their supporters, took out a candle light march and held a protest demonstration on the campus, here this evening.
The aggrieved scholars alleged harassment by the Head of the History Depart-ment, who, they claimed, was continuously delaying notification for their Pre-Ph D abstract presentation.
“We have given two separate applications for conducting presentation in the department and Dean Research Studies, Prof Archana Kesar has also forwarded the letter to HoD instructing him to conduct the presentation before 30th Jan and inform the scholars and the Dean office before 24th of Jan, but Prof Shailendra Singh is now raking up the issue of shortage of attendance,” they said and sought to explain that they were on the extension period for which only 50 percent attendance was required.
The protesting scholars claimed that the HoD History had allowed the submission of some other scholars under his headship but was creating un-necessary controversy in their case only to harass them because of his personal enmity with Dr Nirmal Singh.
The aggrieved scholars appealed the Jammu University administration and particularly the Vice-Chancellor not to allow lobby system in the university and solve the issue in interest of the scholars so that faith of parents, students and the general public in the University authorities may be maintained.
