AG deputes audit team to JKRTC

Srinagar, Mar 5: The Account General (Audit) has deputed an audit team to Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) to collect the data about all the tenders regarding the hiring of buses and trucks since 2019 by the Corporation.
The three-member team has been sent by the AG after the expose of a major scam by Excelsior in the JKRTC. The JKRTC favoured a contractor by reimbursing crores of rupees commission to him despite opposition by the Financial Advisor and General Manager(P).
M/S Qureshi Transport Company was the successful bidder of the tender floated by the JKRTC in September 2020 for engagement of Civil Hired Transport for supply of trucks to meet out the leftover demand of the JKRTC. The contract expired in September 2022 but it was extended by the Corporation to him on previous terms and conditions.
The JKRTC instead of defending the arbitration case conceded to the demands of the contractor and ordered the sanction of Rs 4.25 crore reimbursement to him leading to loss to the Corporation.
