JAMMU, Aug 29: After the authorities restored mobile phone services to five more districts in Jammu division of J&K, entire Jammu region, barring Banihal, now enjoys the service. This has now triggered demand in Jammu region for restoration of mobile internet facility.
The news of mobile phone services restoration in the border district of Rajouri prompted young housewife Anjali to dial her husband Rajiv-an Army jawan posted in Kashmir-but she sadly ended her attempt as the Valley was unlike Rajouri, where the mobile phone services are yet to be restored.

“After 24 days I talked to my parents who live in a nearby hamlet and that gave me a hope to try phone call to Rajiv but after dialing him I learnt that I still have to wait more to give or take a call from him as mobile services in Kashmir are yet to be restored,” she said.
She also informed that her kids are badly missing their ‘Pappa’ and are eagerly waiting to talk to him as otherwise they used to have a video conversation daily.
However, she was happy that in her Rajouri district phone services have been restored and hoped that it may usher in similar development in Kashmir too where apart from locals, men in uniform are also being affected along with their families outside.
Many more people in Rajouri expressed happiness over the restoration of mobile phone services in the district and demanded that mobile internet services should also be started soon.
Another border district Poonch was not lucky like Rajouri as only BSNL mobile phone services are available there and the facility is only possessed by a limited number of people.
Sarfraz-a Mendhar (Poonch) based student living in Jammu informed that after he got the news of mobile phone restoration, he called his parents and some friends at his home town and learned that only BSNL mobile phone services are available there.
Some other Poonch based people working in Jammu have demanded that mobile phone services of all companies should be restored in Poonch too without any delay along with mobile internet facilities.
Thirty five years old Puran Chand who works in a private company in Udhampur was happy today as after 24 days he had talked to his mother and elder brother who live in a small hamlet Haldanu in Batote.
“I enquired well being of my mother as she mostly remains unwell owing to her age. I also talked with my nephews and niece at home,” he said.
However, he said that now they expect that phone connectivity should remain operational.
Chand also said that mobile internet services should also be restored in the entire Jammu division as it is all normal here.
Vinod Kumar-a Government employee in Kishtwar was all happy with the restoration of mobile phone services in the district.
“All the people here are happy as after 24 days they can enquire of well being of their dear ones living outside,” he said adding that the locals there now wish an early restoration of mobile internet services.
Similar were the views of people of Doda district who too expressed happiness over the positive development of mobile phone services and demanded restoration of mobile internet soon.
However, sources informed that apart from Poonch district, mobile phone services were also not restored in Banihal area of district Ramban.
The demand of restoration of mobile internet services also echoed from the Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur districts which enjoyed mobile phone services earlier too and also had mobile internet services restored for a short duration few days back.
Mostly the youths in these districts of Jammu division said that they too want to be part of digital India which is not possible without internet facility.
It is pertinent to mention here that mobile phones and internet services were snapped in most parts of J&K as a precautionary measure on August 5 after the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A and the reorganization of J&K State into Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh Union Territories.
