Speaking to media persons at the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) headquarters during an event celebrating the appointment of senior Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra as the President of JKPCC, Lamba said that the Mahila Congress is already on the ground, kick-starting the campaign.
“It is a victory for democracy. After a long wait of 10 years, democracy will be restored in J&K following the Election Commission of India’s announcement that the Assembly elections will be held in three phases,” she said.
She added that the people of J&K are eagerly awaiting October 4, when they will have their Government, expressing confidence that Congress will win with a full majority in the upcoming Assembly elections.
“Mahila Congress will continue to raise issues faced by women in J&K, including price rises, injustice, and unemployment. We are hopeful that Congress will achieve a full majority on October 4,” Lamba said.
She also outlined the future plans of the Mahila Congress, informing that on Sunday, they will hold a women’s convention in Anantnag, marking the start of the election campaign.
“Mahila Congress is already active on the ground. I have visited five districts so far, and tomorrow, we will hold a convention with nearly 2,000 women in Verinag,” she said.
On the sudden change in JKPCC leadership, with Congress naming Karra as President, Lamba said: “The leadership in Delhi consulted with the leaders in J&K, and after reaching a consensus, the change was made. Now we are heading into the elections with strong leadership.”
Lamba also mentioned that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, are scheduled to visit J&K as part of the election campaign for the Assembly elections.
Regarding a potential pre-poll alliance with other regional parties in J&K, the Mahila Congress President said that deliberations are ongoing.
“Discussions are happening, and the leadership will decide on alliances and seat-sharing after consulting with the leadership in J&K. Time is short, but we are on the ground, reaching out to people,” she said.
