*Takes stock of road safety measures

JAMMU, Feb 18: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, today reviewed progress on major projects of Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department being executed by various agencies under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) here today.
The meeting was attended by Financial Commissioner H&ME, Atal Dulloo; Managing Director Jammu & Kashmir Police Housing Corporation (JKPHC), M.S Salaria; Managing Director Jammu & Kashmir Housing Board (JKHB) Arvind Kotwal; Director Coordination New Medical Colleges Dr Yashpal Sharma; Director Health Services Jammu Dr Renu Sharma; Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina; Chief Engineer R&B Jammu, Des Raj; senior officers of H&ME department and officers of executing agencies while as Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr Samir Mattoo; representatives of new Medical Colleges of Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Rajouri and Kathua participated through video conferencing.
During the meeting, detailed discussion was held on status of works on all major projects that have been undertaken by these executing agencies and stress was given on expeditious completion of these vital works. The projects included New Medical Colleges at Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Kathua and Rajouri, DH Shopian, SDH Sopore, Trauma Hospital Bijbehara, 100 bedded IPD Block at Kot Bhalwal Jammu, Nursing Colleges at Anantnag, Sopore and Kishtwar, MCH Kulgam, PHC Khag, Drug Ware House at Baramulla, Drug Ware House at Kathua, Additional boys hostel at GMC Jammu, 100 bedded Additional Block at DH Kishtwar and few others.
Officers from JKPHC and JKPCC apprised the Advisor of the status of projects undertaken by them informing that works are going on in full swing and will be completed within the set time frame.
Addressing the officers, the Advisor stressed upon them to gear up their men and machinery so that the progress on works can be speeded up and desired results are achieved on ground. He asked them to speed up the works and focus on removing all the bottlenecks that are hindering the pace of works. He also directed the executing agencies to personally visit the sites of projects for effective monitoring.
Meanwhile, Bhatnagar chaired a meeting to review various road safety initiatives undertaken by the Road Safety Council across Jammu and Kashmir at Civil Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Transport Department, Asgar Hassan Samoon; Transport Commissioner, J&K, Pardeep Kumar; Commissioner JMC, Avny Lavasa; IGP Traffic, T Namgyal; SSP Jammu, Shridhar Patil; Additional Secretary, Road Safety Council, R.K Bhat, representatives of NHAI and other officials of the concerned department.
Advisor stressed upon the officials that prime objective of road safety measures should be reducing road fatalities besides taking care of traffic congestion on roads. He impressed upon the officials to devise an action plan for effective implementation of all road safety measures including interceptors, breathe analysers, speed cameras etc for proper traffic management.
Advisor Bhatnagar asked the officials to redesign roads in such a way that on connecting with the highways, they do not create conflict points. He also asked the officials to put up traffic signages on all roads especially hilly roads across J&K which are more vulnerable to accidents
He further directed the officials that the traffic management at toll plazas should be improved so as to reduce the waiting time with proper lane management. He impressed upon the officials to enhance the law enforcement and traffic regulation at various choke points across Jammu city. He suggested that all stakeholders like market associations, transport unions etc be involved for managing traffic problems.
