Admn organises webinar on prevention of cruelty to animal

JAMMU, Sept 18: A webinar-cum-workshop for the capacity building of law enforcement agencies on how to deal with animal abuse, stop illegal bovine transport, animal protection and implementation of Animal Rules 2017 was held today by district administration Jammu.
Officers from the Police, Revenue and Animal Husbandry and other concerned departments attended the online interactive session and discussed Prevention of Cruelty on Animals Act 1960, statutory provisions for transport of animals, statutory provisions for slaughter of animals, case property animal rules and other concerned issues.
Gauri Maulekhi, the internationally renowned animal activists, was the resource person on the occasion. She oversees the management of more than 30 animal shelters across the country. She is the recipient of the Nari Shakti Puraskar 2017- the Highest Civilian honour for women in India – awarded by the President of India for her contribution in the field of animal welfare and Lush prize in London for her contribution to reduction of use of animals in laboratories.
The participants were apprised about the various provisions of prevention of cruelty to animal, misuse of oxytocin, laws regulating domestication of animals and birds and other acts related to animal welfare.
Gauri Maulekhi also gave her consent to organise a physical training session in collaboration with District Administration. Various queries were also asked by the participants and were answered by Gauri Maulekhi.
Prominent among others who attended the webinar included SP Hqr Jammu Dr. Ramnish Gupta, ACG Jammu Rakesh Dubey, CAHO, SDPO Nagrota DySp Propkar Singh, Executive Magistrates of Jammu district, MVO JMC, Veterinary Surgeon Devinder Kour Maidaan Senior Vice President of SPCA Jammu District attended the webinar.
