POONCH, July 27: The District Administration Poonch, supported by Police and Paramilitary Force men in a major `pre-dawn operation’ today, cleared disputed portion of PMGSY road using machinery after a span of about 12 years.
Led by SDM Mendhar Rahul Yadav and SDPO Riaz Tantray, the SHO Abid Rafiqi, Executive Engineer PMGSY and Tehsildar Shahzad Khan besides other team members launched operation at 4 am in the morning and cleared nearly 375 mt disputed area on 4-hour long operation. Some locals had brought stay from the High Court and the court had also dismissed the petition some time back.
On three earlier attempts, the Administration could not clear this 6 kms PMGSY road from Kottan to Upper Galuta. This was the 4th and last attempt today. The police detained the trouble shooters during operation and confined them inside their houses. The team used JCBs to clear this road in swift operation. The tippers/ trolleys were engaged for laying stones layer and `Bazra’.
DC Poonch T A Zargar and SSP Rajiv Pandey were supervising the operation. With the construction of this road, the distance between BG and Mendhar will reduce to 13 kms while it is 23 kms via existing main road.
The road had been sanctioned during 2004 and the work started shortly but thereafter, some families of this area demanded that survey should be changed. The PMGSY did not accept their proposal. The families went to court and did not allow R&B to do work on this road. It is expected that road will be completed within next 6 months. The locals of the area have widely appreciated the action of the Administration.
