Address escalating cancer cases

Sir,
The recent revelation of the escalating cancer cases in Jammu province is alarming and demands immediate attention. The data from the Hospital-Based Cancer Registry of GMC Jammu underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reforms in healthcare delivery and public awareness.
With a dramatic surge in cancer incidence, particularly carcinoma lung, preventive measures, early detection initiatives, and targeted interventions are imperative.
Gender-sensitive healthcare approaches are necessary to address the predominance of lung cancer among males and breast and cervical cancers among females. The demographic profile of cancer patients highlights the need for geriatric oncology services and age-specific healthcare interventions.
Addressing this crisis requires policy reforms, healthcare infrastructure augmentation, community engagement, and proactive public health initiatives.
The establishment of the HBCR by GMC Jammu is commendable, but collective action and unwavering commitment are essential for a healthier future for the communities of Jammu and beyond.
