Address alarming rise of cancer cases in Kashmir, Tarigami to Govt

SRINAGAR: Expressing serious concern over the alarming rise in cancer case in Kashmir valley, State CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today urged the Government to take effective and immediate steps to address the issue.

“The Government should take serious note of alarming rise in cancer cases in Kashmir valley and approach the Health Ministry for constituting a committee of experts on cancer to study the reasons for alarming rise of this disease,” Mr Tarigami, who is the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kulgam, said while participating in a debate on grants of Health and Medical Education in Legislative Assembly.

He said effective and immediate steps should be taken to address the issue of rising adulteration cases of food. “Sufficient funds need to be allocated for establishing laboratories in both the regions. Whatever amount has been sanctioned in the Budget is too little to meet this challenge,” he said.

He emphasised the necessity for providing minimum wages of Rs 1000 in addition to incentives already been paid to ASHA workers, keeping in view their contribution in promoting health care to rural women folk.

He demanded for providing them all social security benefits like pension, gratuity and maternity benefits etc. (AGENCIES)
