Action Plan for publicity of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ sought

JAMMU, Feb 14: Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Sanjeev Verma along with Deputy Commissioners of various districts today held a video conference with Union Secretary, Women and Child Development, V.S.Oberoi and Union Additional Secretary, Preeti Sudan to discuss implementation of flagship mission “Beti Bachao Beti Padao” in the State.
During the video conference, various measures for effective implementation of the scheme were discussed in detail. The officers exchanged their experiences about the scheme and also highlighted the importance of its implementation to improve the sex ratio in the State.
The Union Secretary informed that 5 vans carrying Audio-Visual publicity equipment for the purpose would be arriving in five districts namely Jammu, Kathua, Budgam, Anantnag and Pulwama and will remain stationed there for a month.
It was informed that the objective of the scheme is to evolve a sustained social mobilization and communication campaign to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of delivery of welfare services meant for women.
Mr. Verma assured the Union Secretary that every effort would be made to ensure that the scheme is implemented in letter and spirit. He also sought cooperation from the Union Ministry in this regard.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioners have been asked to submit the action plan regarding mass communication campaign for the scheme within a week.
