JAMMU, June 13: Girdhari Lal Raina, former MLC and spokesperson of BJP JK UT has strongly condemned the continuous harassment of an elected councilor belonging to the minority community in Kokernag Kashmir.
The elected councilor Pervinder Kour Wazir Hangloo a popular elected member of Municipal Committee, Kokernag is being subjected to intense intimidation, mental strain and emotional stress by officials of Kokernag Development Authority (KDA) for refusing to follow corrupt practices and also for her untiring efforts to retrieve illegally encroached immovable property belonging to religious bodies and shrines of the minority community in the area, he said.
Raina said surprisingly, the officer responsible for this harassment of an elected councilor from a minority community is reportedly posted at the same place for over a decade now which again is against norms. Even the family of Ms Pervinder Kour living under anxiety fearing for the life of this daring young lady who chose to serve people under difficult circumstances.
Instead of encouraging her, she is being punished- a move that further discourages other members of the displaced community to return back to their roots, Ex-MLC complained.
Pervinder Kour Wazir Hangloo has been charged rent at market rate even when she was eligible and allotted accommodation as per rules applicable to all elected representatives in Kashmir Valley. What is more hurting is the fact that she is the only exception in this regard while others who are not even eligible have been favoured as is evident from the complaint submitted by the lady councilor to higher authorities, BJP spokesperson stressed. This is indicative of some deeper malaise and needs to be nipped in the bud, he added.
It is imperative upon the higher authorities to institute an in depth inquiry into the complaints of councilor and punish the guilty, Raina demanded.
It may be recalled that the councilor at a press conference at Kokernag yesterday alleged that she is even facing a threat to her life as she is being humiliated and harassed by the KDA authorities. The local Congress leaders have also taken strong exception to the treatment meted out to the councilor belonging to minority community.
