Sir,
I am writing to express my profound appreciation for the recent announcement made by the Government regarding the allocation of Rs 1,650 crore to provide an additional 75 lakh free LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). This news is not only heart-warming but also a significant step towards ensuring the well-being and improved living standards of our citizens.
This generous allocation of funds, which includes subsidies for different types of connections, as well as a targeted subsidy of Rs 200 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for up to 12 refills per year, reflects the Government’s dedication to addressing the needs of households that still lack access to LPG connections. With these additional 75 lakh connections, the PMUY beneficiaries will reach an impressive 10.35 crore, making a substantial impact on the lives of many families.
The Government’s acknowledgment of the challenges faced by eligible households, including factors like population growth, marriages, migration, and remote locations, is commendable. It demonstrates a deep understanding of the ground realities and the commitment to leave no one behind.
As of August 31, 2023, there is a demand for 15 lakh PMUY connections, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in meeting the growing needs of our population. The subsidized price of Rs 703 for an LPG cylinder for Ujjwala beneficiaries, with the continuing Rs 200 per cylinder subsidy, is a boon for those struggling with daily expenses.
In conclusion, I would like to express my gratitude to the Government for its commitment to improving the lives of our citizens and ensuring that every household has access to clean and sustainable cooking fuel. This initiative not only safeguards the health of our mothers and sisters but also uplifts their quality of life. It is indeed a commendable step towards building a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous nation. The citizens on their part must LPG judiciously so that prices are not increased.
