SRINAGAR, Aug 22: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar has directed the concerned officers for accelerating the pace of construction work on new Panchayat Ghars and repair of existing ones for providing adequate infrastructure facilities to the Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) in the State.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing a meeting of officers convened to discuss nitty-gritties of construction of the new Panchayat Bhawan at Airport road Humhama today.
Commissioner Secretary Rural Development Farooq Ahmad Peer, besides officers from Rural Department and JKPCC attended the meeting.
Spread over 3 kanals, the double storied Panchayat Bhawan is coming up at an estimated cost of Rs. 10.81 crore. The complex with 20,000 square feet built-up area will be equipped with latest Audio-visual system, besides acoustics treatment and heritage component. The complex is expected to be completed within one and half year.
The Minister directed that Commissioner Secretary RDD and Director, RDD, Kashmir to visit the proposed site to ascertain feasibility status for increasing the seating capacity in the up-coming complex so that more and more persons can be accommodated in the complex. He directed the concerned that they should utilize the available space properly while constructing new Panchayat Ghars in such a way that large number of people could be accommodated there.
Mr. Sagar directed the concerned officers that the work on the new Panchayat Ghars should be completed within the shortest possible time ensuring adequate infrastructural facilities to the PRIs. He said that the Government has already put in place a vibrant and empowered Panchayati Raj System and these new Panchayat Ghars would go a long way in providing the much needed facility to the Sarpanchs and Panchs for carrying out their day-to-day activities.
The Minister also directed the concerned for ensuring early completion of repair and renovation of existing Panchayat Ghars in the State so that these are also handed over to the concerned.
