ACB nabs clerk for demanding bribe

BARAMULLA, July 22: A clerk posted in the office of Tehsildar Boniyar was arrested by the sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) red-handed for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10000.
Marefatul Haq was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by one person who claimed that the former demanded Rs 10000 from him in lieu of issuing him the appointment order as Numberdar Mohura, an ACB spokesperson said.
Quoting the complaint, he said that the complainant had already paid Rs 2000 as bribe but the accused was demanding additional Rs 10000 for the preparation and issuance of his appointment order.
After the complainant approached the ACB, a case FIR number 6/2023 under Section 7 of the Prevention of the Corruption Act 1988 was registered at Police Station Anti-Corruption Bureau and investigation taken up, he said.
During the course of investigation, he said, a trap was laid and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10000 from the complainant in Tehsil Office Boniyar.
During the personal search of the accused, suspicious bundles of currency amounting to Rs 64500 was also recovered, said the ACB spokesperson.
As part of the further investigation, the ACB sleuths have also conducted searches at the residence of the accused at Chandilora, Tangmarg, and Hamadia Colony, Bemina.
