ACB charge-sheets cop in graft case

JAMMU, Apr 8: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a charge-sheet against a police cop who was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe.
An ACB spokesperson said that a case FIR number 03/2023 under section 7 of the Prevention of the Corruption Act (PC Act) was registered against Mohammad Sultan, then Selection grade Constable (SgCT), posted as Munshi at Police Post Chinnore, for allegedly demanding Rs 8000 from one person (complainant) for releasing his son from the police custody.
He said the complainant had already paid Rs 4000 out of the demanded amount of Rs 8000 but the accused kept on demanding Rs 4000 more to ensure the release of his son.
The ACB spokesperson further said that on the basis of the complaint received from the complainant, a trap was laid and the SgCT Mohammad Sultan was caught red handed while demanding and accepting the graft, which was recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses.
After completion of investigation and obtaining sanction for prosecution from the competent authority, the charge sheet was produced before the court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Jammu for judicial determination, he said.
April 23, 2024 is the next date of hearing in the case, he added.
