ACB books SI Excise Deptt for excess toll charging

SRINAGAR, Nov 10: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today produced a charge sheet against Naseer Ahmad, the then Sub Inspector Excise and Taxation Department Toll Post at Lower Munda Anantnag and other in an excess toll charging case
ACB said that the challan was produced in Case FIR No. 55/2015 P/S VOK (now ACB), under Section 5(1) d r/w 5(2) PC Act. Svt. 2006, 120-B, 420 /RPC against Naseer Ahmad, the then Sub-Inspector and Manzoor Ahmad, the then Excise Guard, Excise and Taxation Department toll post at Lower Munda Anantnag in the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Anantnag.
While detailing the case, the ACB said, an instant case was registered by ACB on the allegations that officials of tool post at Lower Munda were looting innocent drivers by abuse of their official position and charging Rs 1500 to Rs 3000 per truckload as toll charges.
“A surprise check was conducted on January 21, 2015 by the ACB team in presence of the magistrate and during the check of a particular shift manned by the accused officials, excess cash of thousands of rupees was found which was collected from the passing trucks in excess of the permissible amount of Rs. 600 per vehicle under rules,” the ACB said.
Both the accused persons, the ACB said, were presented before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Anantnag for further legal action. A further trial of the case will proceed in due course, it said.
