ACB arrests suspended CBI judge in cash-for-bail scam

HYDERABAD, June 19: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Slueths today arrested suspended First Additional CBI Court Judge T Pattabhirama Rao for his alleged involvement in the cash-for-bail scam after he had granted bail to former Karnataka BJP Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy in the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) Case, on May 11.
A five-member team from ACB arrived on the residence of Mr Rao this morning and took him into custody at 0700 hrs.
The ACB officials later took him to its office where he was reportedly grilled. Government doctors later conducted medical tests.
Earlier, the ACB had arrested retired district judge T V Cbalapathi Rao and the son of Mr Pattabhirama Rao, Ravi Chandra following the raids on their houses at Ashok Nagar and Banjara Hills here.
Ravi Chandra was given five lockers by the Corporation Bank, Ashok Nagar before Mr Janardhan Reddy was granted bail.
The ACB had also conducted raids on Mr Chalapathi Rao’s brothers T S T Sai Babu and T Srinivas Rao in Chilakuluripet in Guntur District.
Earlier, the ACB on the instance of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, had taken over the case from the CBI which had unearthed the scam.
Later, the ACB had registered First Information Report (FIR) against Mr Pattabhirama Rao and seven others after the CBI had handed over the investigation.
The FIR was filed against the Judge’s son Ravi Chandra, Janardhan Reddy’s brother and Bellary MLA Somasekhara Reddy, Dashrathram Reddy, BJP MLA of Kampli in Karnataka Suresh Babu, retired district Judge P V Chalapathi Rao, Rowdy Sheeter Yadagiri and Junior Advocate Aditya. (UNI)
