ACB arrests Patwari for demanding bribe

Srinagar, July 4: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Patwari from the Zakoora area of Srinagar for demanding and accepting a bribe.
ACB said that it trapped and arrested Gulzar Ahmad Makloo, Patwari, Halqa Zakoora for demanding Rs 50,000 and accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe for the issuance of revenue extracts.
As per the Bureau, it received a written complaint wherein it was alleged that Gulzar Ahmad Makloo, Patwari, Halqa Zakura, Srinagar was demanding Rs. 50,000 as a bribe for issuance of revenue extracts of land in favor of the complainant.
“The complainant alleged that he approached the Patwari for issuance of revenue extracts of land and the Patwari asked him to pay Rs 50,000 for the same. The deal was later settled for Rs 15,000 as the first installment for the same,” the ACB said.
It said that on this, the complainant approached Anti Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the erring revenue official under the relevant section of Law.
As the contents of the complaint prima facie disclose the commission of the offense as defined under section 7 of the PC Act 1988, accordingly a case FIR No 26/2022 was registered at PS ACB Srinagar, and an investigation was started, ACB said.
During the investigation, ACB said, a trap team was constituted and the team laid a successful trap and caught red-handed the alleged accused Patwari while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 15000 from the complainant as an installment.
“The bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of an independent witness. The accused was arrested on the spot and legal formalities were carried on for the further course of necessary action,” ACB said, adding further investigation was going on.
